Worthgate Students Reach Final Stage of Prestigious Ritangle Maths Competition

Worthgate School is proud to celebrate the success of a team of A Level Further Maths students who have reached the final stage of the Ritangle Maths Competition, an annual online competition organised by MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry).

Ritangle is a highly regarded and exceptionally challenging competition aimed at students studying A Level Mathematics or equivalent, with many participating students also studying Further Mathematics. Schools from around the world are invited to enter teams, who must work collaboratively to solve a series of demanding mathematical problems published weekly online. Importantly, students must complete the challenges independently, without assistance from their teachers. While the use of technology such as graphical calculators is permitted, the problems require a deep understanding of A Level mathematics alongside creativity, logical reasoning, and perseverance.

For the first time, Worthgate School entered a team into the competition. Calling themselves “The Big Fish”, the team consisted of Nurmuhamme, Ekaterina, Aung, Hryhorii, and team captain Jason, all of whom are A1 Further Maths students. The students dedicated significant amounts of their own free time each week to collaborate, discuss ideas, and solve the problems together. Their hard work paid off, as they successfully solved all of the weekly challenges and progressed to the final stage of the competition.

Each year, around 2,000 teams from over 20 countries take part in Ritangle, with only approximately 25% advancing to the final stage. Reaching this level is therefore an outstanding achievement and a testament to the students’ mathematical ability, teamwork, and commitment.

Congratulations to The Big Fish on this impressive accomplishment – The Worthgate School is extremely proud of you.
