Building Connections and Inspiring Futures at The Worthgate School University Fair

Students at The Worthgate School recently had the opportunity to explore a world of higher education possibilities as we welcomed universities from across the UK and beyond to our annual University Fair.

The event brought together an impressive range of institutions, giving students the chance to speak directly with admissions teams, current students and university representatives about their future study options. From prestigious Russell Group universities and top-ranking institutions to specialist art, business and medical schools, the fair showcased the breadth of opportunities available to our students after graduation.

A Diverse and Inspiring Event

Reflecting on this year’s fair, our Director of Higher Education, Mr Robin Cousins, highlighted the scale and impact of the event:

“One of the highlights was having over 70% of Russell Group and top 20 universities represented. It was also fantastic to see such diversity, from medical schools and art colleges to business schools. We were delighted to welcome more than 1,000 students from schools across the local community, creating a truly vibrant and inspiring atmosphere.”

The fair not only benefited Worthgate students but also opened its doors to students from schools across the region, strengthening connections within the wider educational community.

Bringing University Research to Life

While university websites and prospectuses provide valuable information, nothing compares to face-to-face conversations with representatives who can answer individual questions and provide first-hand insight.

“Our students were encouraged to discuss programme options, entry requirements, accommodation, scholarships and support available for international students,” explained Mr Cousins. “These conversations help students gain a much deeper understanding of what universities can offer.”

Attending a university fair also enables students to develop a personal connection with institutions they may be considering.

“Students often make decisions based on factors such as location, rankings, tuition fees and entry requirements. However, meeting university representatives allows them to build a rapport and an emotional connection with a university. A positive experience can make a lasting impression and help students identify the environment where they will thrive.”

Student Perspectives

Students from across our programmes found the experience both informative and empowering.

An IB2 student shared:

“The careers fair provided me with an excellent opportunity to address further questions about my progression to higher education that universities didn’t answer on their websites. By talking to students and members of the recruitment and admissions teams, I was able to learn more about university life and scholarship opportunities. This definitely helped me make more informed decisions about my future.”

An A2 student added:

“Overall, the experience was excellent and well organised. The representatives from every university were knowledgeable and able to answer questions thoroughly. The planning was also very good, making it easy to find the universities I wanted to visit.”

For many younger students, the fair offered valuable early insight into university pathways.

A Pre-A student commented:

“Thank you for the opportunity to speak with university admissions teams. I enjoyed it because I could ask questions I needed answered and get to know the universities better.”

Meanwhile, an A1 student reflected on how the event supported future planning:

“It was a wonderful experience. I am glad I was able to attend the fair because it helped me learn more about different courses and opportunities connected to my interests. It also gave me a better understanding of how I can work towards my future goals.”

An IB1 student also valued the variety of institutions represented:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the Careers Fair and found it extremely valuable. I particularly appreciated the diversity of universities and academic pathways presented. It helped me make important decisions about my future study plans in the UK.”
