#Students Announced as Finalists in Online Harms Podcast Competition

The Worthgate School is delighted to announce another student success. Five GCSE students are finalists in the Kent Secondary Schools Online Harms Media Challenge. 

The competition allows the public to vote for the best student-created podcast on online safety and healthy relationships. A panel of judges selected 12 podcasts for the competition. All the podcasts have been created by students at different Kent secondary schools. 

Our students, Vittorio, Yusuf, Keira, Abdul and Sofia, worked together to create a podcast about online harassment. Their podcast has been selected by judges for a public vote, because “their message was so powerful”. 

We are extremely proud of their success. The judges noted how impressed they were by the standard of entries from all schools. Being selected as finalists is a major achievement for the group.

A Powerful Message

The podcast tackles online harassment, inappropriate content and healthy relationships. 

It reminds everyone that online harassment is never the victim’s fault. 

Just one minute long, it delivers a powerful message about staying safe online.

Students created podcasts as part of a workshop on healthy relationship and online safety. A joint project by Kent Police and Crime Commissioner and Collaborate Digital, the interactive workshop explored what healthy relationships look like and how students can stay safe when using social media and online gaming. Students were offered advice on how to combat cyberbullying and harassment and where to seek help if they are affected. 

Students then created mini-podcasts on the workshop’s themes. The topics are challenging and serious. Students had to think about how to present sensible advice to their friends sensitively. Creating a podcast was an excellent opportunity to applying their critical thinking skills and use technology to share their messages.
