#Summer School at The Worthgate School

Summer has arrived in Canterbury. With the sunshine also comes summer school students, ready to learn and have fun in a UK summer school. 

In partnership with Stafford House Study Holidays, The Worthgate School and Stafford House Canterbury offers five summer school programmes for students from around the world.  

Our Courses

Careers In Medicine

A superb summer school course for aspiring medical professionals.  

All students achieve a Science Crest Award during the course. These are prestigious UK awards for student-led science projects. 

The programme offers medicine focused science lessons, university counselling and advice on university entrance tests.  

Students also take part in a one day first aid course.

Model United Nations 

An ideal summer school course for students passionate about international relations and politics.  

All students participate in a Model United Nations conference simulation, where they experience being delegates at a UN conference.  

Students develop research, debate and negotiation skills as well as a practical understanding of the United Nations.

Stafford House Canterbury offers the following summer school courses for international students: Classic English, Intensive English and Basketball Plus English. Every lesson and activity helps students enhance their English language skills with a focus on building confidence as a communicator. 

Classic English 

A dynamic, interactive English summer school course focused on developing confidence and motivation.  

On some courses, students learn to study English.  

On a Stafford House Study Holidays course, students learn to use English. 

Learning takes places in a variety of settings – workshops, trips and activities – as well as in the classroom.

Intensive English 

This summer school course is designed for students who wish to focus on studying English.  

Students enjoy 23 hours of taught lessons. They also have many opportunities to use their English in more relaxed settings.  

Our intensive summer school programme focuses on communication skills. Students become confident speakers, listeners, readers and writers with a strong vocabulary and grammar knowledge.  

English Plus Basketball 

Professional basketball coaching with high quality English teaching, this fun summer school course is perfect for students wishing to be active as they learn.  

Students receive 15 hours of classroom based English lessons plus 9 hours of professional basketball training. Our basketball coaches are liscenced by England Basketball.  

All teaching on this UK summer school course is offered in English so students have opportunities to  use their English skills immediately.  

Summer School Activities

Beyond the classroom, our summer school programmes offer many engaging and fun activities for students to enjoy. 

Activities vary between courses as they are designed to fit with student interests and learning. For example, our Model United Nations students might have educational visits to the Red Cross, Greenpeace or a local homeless shelter to enhance their learning. Our Classic English students may enjoy sports or crafts activities or visit local Canterbury attractions, while our Basketball students have basketball coaching most days with trips and sports or arts activities on other days.  

Our Intensive English courses have fewer trips and activities during the week but students do enjoy a visit to a local attraction as well as trips into Canterbury.  

Evening Activities   

Every evening, activities are offered that let students relax and socialise.  

From discos to game nights, through talent shows, film screenings and sports competitions, a wide range of activities are offered across the week. 

 Excursions 

All courses include one full day and one half day excursion.  

Different excursions are offered each week. Potential excursions include full day visits to London, Cambridge and Brighton, half day trips include visits to the beach and local castles.
