The Worthgate School is quietening down as Christmas creeps closer. Many of our students are returning home to spend the holidays with their loved ones. To close the term on a bright note and wave them off on their journeys we have planned lots of exciting activities here at The Worthgate School.
Before sharing how students have spent their last few weeks of the Autumn term, our Principal, Dr Ian Gross, shares a Christmas message:
“I would like to wish you all a very happy holidays from everyone here at The Worthgate School. Canterbury is a particularly festive place at this time of year – with the Cathedral putting on events, Christmas markets in full swing, and something special in the air as everyone prepares for the biggest holiday in the UK calendar.
Of course, it’s also a time for celebrating our friendships and community here at The Worthgate School. Before the holidays begin, we arrange seasonal activities for our students, giving them a snapshot of a traditional British Christmas, including the turkey and Christmas Pudding. Every student is made to feel welcome and included and our activities provide an opportunity to deepen friendships formed in the autumn term.
2023 was a year of achievements at The Worthgate School, with excellent results from our UFP, International Baccalaureate and A Level students. These results go on to further show how the school empowers our young people to find their own way to a place at a top UK University. We hope 2024 will see our students continue to push the levels of achievement that we have become used to at The Worthgate.
We wish you all a happy festive season!”

Here at The Worthgate School 2023 was a fantastic year. Each of our students are leaps and bounds closer to achieving their future goals and as a school community we accomplished great things this year.
We wanted to give our students the full Christmas experience here at The Worthgate School. This gives them the chance to experience an early Christmas with their friends and our school community, whilst celebrating their Autumn term accomplishments.
Throughout December we have run a number of festive-themed activities for our students to enjoy:
Christmas is the season for giving, and while we all made the most of the fantastic celebrations here at The Worthgate School, we also wanted to give back to our community. Partnering with a charity who are supporting our local children’s centre, students participated in two fundraisers.
The first event was an advent calendar drive. Our students donated advent calendars in the lead up to December, which are gifted to children who would otherwise not experience the joy of counting down to Christmas. The second fundraiser was to help the centre put on a special shopping experience for families who are struggling. Our students donated money and toys to help make this event possible.
We ran a decorating competition, judged by our Principal, Dr Ian Gross, where Christmas creativity was pushed to its limit. We had snowmen made from recycled cups and home-made Christmas games. Students and House Parents alike got into the festive spirit, with some of the students even dressing up like elves!
On Saturday 9th of December we held our first Christmas Ball! Or perhaps we should say Grinchmas , thanks to our furry green host. It was a sensational success and students danced the day away to the biggest Christmas hits, had a laugh with friends and truly got into the Christmas spirit.
